Today's Goals are achievable based on the fact that Southern Arizona is replete with intellectual capital in the form of retired executives with vast amounts of business management experience, bilingual/bicultural community members representing over 60 different cultures and countries, Arid Lands Livability technology emanating out of the University of Arizona and local entrepreneurs.

To Accomplish These Goals,
Sunbelt World Trade Association takes advantage of this valuable talent pool to educate ourselves, network, and affect change in Southern Arizona and beyond.

Sunbelt members have extensive knowledge of people, customs and business practices, as well as insights built upon years of global experience, and they serve as a solid constituency to promote economic globalization - both its challenges and its opportunities.

We are always looking for members who continue to make a difference both locally and  globally.

The Sunbelt World Trade Association was initially formed in 1976 as the Southern Arizona World Trade Association.  Its first accomplishment was to create the infrastructure to establish a system of integrated Foreign Trade Zones which would promote and facilitate international trade between the United States, Asia and Latin America.  This goal was achieved in 1987 with the dedication of Tucson's Foreign Trade Zone #48. The Tucson Foreign Trade Zone brought to three the number of Foreign Trade Zones orchestrated by the Sunbelt World Trade Association, including the Nogales and Oakland Foreign Trade Zones. The Tucson FTZ was also the first to be opened on an Indian Reservation.

As Sunbelt enters the 21st Century, its target is more ambitious.  Sunbelt's goal is to revitalize the local community by identifying the challenges and opportunities facing Southern Arizona.
